Thank you for posting this article. It highlights the budget crisis facing many of the nation's transit systems, including here in Phoenix: (http://www.azcentral.com/news/traffic/lightrail/articles/2010/01/09/20100109transitcuts0109.html) Just as the Metro light rail finished it's first year exceeding ridership projections, service cuts (and reduced frequencies) could hurt its appeal to drivers and reduce the potential environmental benefits of the system. It illustrates the challenges facing transit systems during these tough economic times.
I really enjoyed reading this article. It always amazes me when budgetary issues are presented and citizens are uninformed. Having lived in Washington DC previous to Scottsdale, I used the DC metro on a daily basis. It is used daily by a large amount of individuals, the fact that the states are not recognizing the responsibility of keeping the metro running to the same standards surprises me, because so many individuals use it.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the DC metro system. Thanks for the article :)
Yeah~ I agree to your opinions. This article shows ths budget crisis of the transit systems is serious, but I like to focus on other issue that is the relationship between pollution and transportation as the article said " we risk further deterioration of the transportation network vital to the region's ability to prosper economically without worsening traffic congestion and pollution" So, this article can be also applied to this issue and we should think the transportation brings environmental problems.
